Description & Services

Information The purpose of the 4-H program is to prepare girls and boys for their future as adult citizens. 4-H stands for head, heart, hands and health. The 4-H pledge describes the significance of the four H’s:

"I pledge:
My HEAD to clearer thinking,
My HEART to greater loyalty,
My HANDS to larger service,
My HEALTH to better living,
For my Club, my Community and My Country."

The philosophy of the 4-H program is explained by the 4-H motto: Learn to do by Doing. Green represents youth and white represents purity on the emblem.

As a Nova Scotia 4-H’er, members can have the feeling of accomplishment that comes from trying and succeeding at something new – whether it’s fixing a small engine, knitting a sweater, training an animal or presenting a speech or demonstration to an audience. 4-H offers all kinds of opportunities for 4-H members. Opportunities include various provincial and regional programs that members can attend to visit new places and make new friends! Senior 4-H members can also apply for scholarships and earn a personal development credit for Grade 10.

To become a member of Colchester County 4-H you can contact the Central Region Agricultural Leadership Coordinator, Jacqueline Hoyt, or contact a club general leader near you! There is a small annual fee to become a 4-H member at registration which is usually held in the fall at clubs general meetings.
