Description & Services

Information Mission Statement: Supporting families in Cumberland and Colchester Counties in Nova Scotia, Maggie's Place Family Resource Centres strive to strengthen and enhance the health and social development of children and families within their communities. 
 
Some of the programs and gatherings we offer for families in Colchester County include:  
 
Drop in Family Playgroups: Playgroups are a free & fun opportunity for parents & caregivers to have fun with their child birth to school age and meet people in their community. Each session includes playtime, a craft, a snack and circle time with activities, songs and stories. More details regarding locations and times can be found at www.maggiesplace.ca  
 
Parenting Groups: 
 
Parenting Journey: This is a community-based family support program which promotes optimal growth of children and youth through purposeful, goal-based home visitation. Serving Colchester County families with children ages birth-19 years who are facing a variety of behavioural, social, school and environmental challenges.  
 
Parent Workshops: Guest speakers share information with parents and caregivers on various topics of interest. Requests/suggestions for workshop topics are welcome.  
 
Prenatal/Postnatal Programs: 
 
Full Bellies Prenatal Program: This is a 3 week program happening three times a year on Saturdays for families expecting a baby. This program explores ways to take good care of yourself and your baby before and after birth, in addition to sessions on Infant safety, infant feeding and labour and delivery. Facilitated by various resource people from the community.  
 
Preparing to Breastfeed: A three week program offered three times a year to help expectant folks learn about breastfeeding/chestfeeding in order to make the best infant feeding decisions for themselves and their babies.  
 
Rock & Talk: This is a drop in program for families with babies birth to 18mos. Parents provide support to each other and share challenges and tips. We have visitors from Public Health some weeks. Weekly - Tuesdays 11-12:30  
 
Infant Massage: This is a three session program to learn ways to soothe and further bond with your infant through massage and touch. For ages 3-9 months and their caregivers.  
 
Baby, Me & Mother Goose: This is an 8 week program, running three times a year, where parents & caregivers learn rhymes, songs and have fun with their baby (3 months to under 18 months).
Hours Monday to Friday: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm 
Closed Saturdays and Sundays, except for special programs.
