Ten Mile Lake presumably got its name because of its location ten miles from Milton. A small provincial picnic park at the north end of the lake provides the only public access. It is a lovely spot with large pine and beech trees and a tiny beach. The shoreline on the north half is very rocky for landing but a few stony beaches can be found as you head south. The land is low lying with few hills for reference but its hard to get lost on this lake with its long narrow shape.

Although the shoreline is not very suited to landing, the lack of development all around the lake make it a peaceful place to paddle though you can hear traffic from the nearby highway. In the south end of the lake are three large wooded islands. Beaver Island is the middle of the three and on the north end is Beaver Lodge Outfitters, a hunting and fishing business that operates from March till December.

The south end is a mix of grasses extending inland into large marshes. Anarrow channel (400 m) lined with waving grasses connects the south end to Little Ten Mile Lake, a shallow isolated lake about one km long and wide. This channel is passable even in low water for a canoe or kayak.

Water Safety Notes

Wind - The long, narrow shape of this lake with little shelter means you may be paddling into a headwind either on your way down or your way back depending on the season. Plan for the extra time and energy required.

How to get there
On Route 8 between Liverpool and Caledonia. 19.5 kms from Exit 19 off Highway 103.

Access Point One - Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park
This park is open from Victoria Day weekend in May until Thanksgiving in October. It has picnic tables and pit toilets. Launching is easy either at a new boat ramp or a small beach. A gate prevents vehicle entry when the park is closed but use is still permitted and encouraged. The carry from the gate to the beach is about 90m.
