Fifty-five years and counting... During the summer of 1955, a group of 26 men formed the newest Lions Club in Nova Scotia at that time. Lions International issued the charter proclaiming The Bridgetown Lions Club to be an official member of Lions Clubs International on September 21, 1955. The Bridgetown Lions Club has played a large part in the building of the Memorial Arena, the Swimming Pool and has contributed major funding to the new Bridgetown Fire Hall. The Lions Club provides continuing support to many other programs, such as Army Cadets, CNIB, Terry Fox Run, "Northwood In Touch", the BRHS graduation breakfast, the BRES Christmas Santa party, Bridgetown Community Recreation Association and grants a variety of bursaries and sponsorships every year. The current twenty-five dedicated members, including 7 women, of the Bridgetown Lions continue to carry on the vision of those 26 pioneers who, fifty-five years ago, dreamed of making Bridgetown a better place to live, work and play. As we look ahead, we plan to continue “giving back to our community”. |
