Description & Services
Information | Do you have an interest in Ham Radio? In tandem with RAC (Radio Amateurs of Canada), we offer Amateur Radio training that will enable you to write your Industry Canada certification exam. If you already have your certification, we offer a variety of assistance with whatever your interests are. Amateur Radio is an interesting and evolving hobby for people of all ages. Children as young as 10 years of age have earned their amateur radio license. After obtaining your license and with a minimum output of funds to purchase a transceiver, new or used, and a simple wire antenna you can enjoy many hours talking to other amateurs around the world. There is no longer a requirement to learn Morse code, and all amateurs around the world have a working knowledge of the English language. To have full operating privileges you must achieve a score of 80% or higher on your exam. There is more to amateur radio operations than just voice communications. With a simple interface between your transceiver and computer there are seemingly endless operating opportunities that could catch and grab your interest in this relaxing hobby. The KCARC also works with the local EMO and is always ready and willing to provide emergency communications or assist with the communications needs of our local EMO. A good way to spend long winter evenings! The KCARC is able to refer you to RAC online courses so you can obtain your certification and there are several members who would be willing to help get you on the air and comfortable using your radio. Check out our web site at the link noted above! |
Meetings | First Tuesday of each month (no meetings during summer months), please check our website for exact dates. |
