Description & Services

Information

Camp Rankin, built in 1972 by volunteers as a Centennial project of the Richmond County 4-H Leader’s Council, was the first 4-H camp in the Atlantic provinces. It is located on 60 acres of land at Cape George, near St. Peters, Richmond Co., Nova Scotia. “4-H members often say that going to Camp Rankin was one of the best experiences they’ve had. Many young people will return to repeat their camp experience or get jobs as camp staff,” said Ruth Grant, senior 4-H program co-ordinator. “Once again this year, members can bring a buddy to camp to promote the 4-H program as a positive experience and recruit new 4-H members.” The camp features hiking trails, beach and a dining and recreation hall. Counsellors lead the youth through 4-H skills sessions and traditional camp activities.

Facilities include hiking trails, a beach and a dining and recreation hall in a scenic setting on the Bras d’Or Lakes. Trained camp counsellors provide youth with a traditional camp experience and 4-H skills sessions. Richmond County 4-H Leaders Council maintains the camp and works in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture to host five one-week camps every summer for 4-H members and friends.
