Description & Services

Information Sea Cadets provides opportunities that no other youth group offers in more than 70 Sea Cadet Corps in communities across the Atlantic Provinces.

Sea Cadets, ages 12 to 18 years for male and female, train one night each with some weekend activities. Young people who join Sea Cadets will learn seamanship, from tying knots to sailing a whaler through the waves, navigation, powerboat operation, lookout duties, small boat sailing, marksmanship, drill, sail regattas and adventure training.

Cadets also have the opportunity to take part in optional training in areas such as scuba diving, music and biathlon. Top senior cadets may be chosen to sail on Tall Ships, Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Navy ships and participate in national international exchanges that take place throughout the year.

The highlight for many Cadets is the summer when they are able to take part in training at one of the six summer training centers across the country. In Atlantic Region, HMCS Acadia is located in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, HMCS Quadra in British Columbia and Kingston, Ontario. Courses offered include: General Military Training (GMT), Gunnery, Music, Boatswain and Sail, Fitness and Sports, and Marksmanship. Perhaps the best thing about being a sea cadet is that you get to meet new people, make new friends while learning to become more self-reliant and a better citizen.
Eligibility Ages: 12 year(s) - 18 year(s)
Meetings Sea Cadets meet every Thursday evening between 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm at their headquarters at the Chester Legion. Chester NS.
