Description & Services

Information Citizens for Public Transit Society (CPT), is a group of Lunenburg County citizens, advocating for a scheduled, fixed-route public bus system within Lunenburg County.

CPT, is recommending the system to the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) and the three Town Councils of Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and is urging the Government of Nova Scotia to assist financially.

Eventually other routes, spokes to this central hub, could serve destinations like New Germany, and Vogler's Cove. It is hoped that eventually the District system will inter-connect to a Provincial network that links many other local transit systems.

It is expected that the fixed route fixed schedule plans will complement door-to-door reservations systems already in place in Lunenburg County.

Citizens for Public Transit Society (CPT) is looking for a few public-spirited people to join the leadership of a group of advocates for Public Transit in the Lunenburg County area. Our board meets about once a month to plan and implement advocacy efforts aimed at establishing a public bus system along populated routes in the Bridgewater-Mahone Bay-Lunenburg area. A study released by CPT in August 2019 details our current thinking on the project.

CPT Board Members:
• Participate in monthly board meetings and other events to provide leadership and oversight for the organization;
• Work with other board members to promote public transit by developing advocacy and communications strategies and implementation plans;
• Help represent CPT at public events such as transit study meetings, town council debates, trade fairs and community events.

Qualifications and Competencies for CPT Board Members:
• A commitment to advocating for public transit and the benefits it brings to communities;
• Ability to provide oversight and model ethical behaviour as a member of the leader-ship team of a non-profit group;
• Diligence and ability to work and communicate within a team;
• Integrity and professional courtesy;
• Willingness to commit about 1/2 day per month to furthering the mandate of CPT.
