Description & Services

Information One of our larger branches, the Pictou Library is located downtown Pictou on Water Street, upstairs in the Town Council Building (2nd floor). The Pictou Library is a wireless hotspot (WIFI) with access to high speed Internet.  
 
We offer a full range of free services and access to the resources of all Nova Scotia public libraries. 
 
Collection: 
Books for all ages and interests, reference, large print book, DVDs/videos, magazines, audiobooks, Playaways, downloadable audiobooks, ebooks and emagazines, online databases& instructional programs (such as Ancestry.ca, RBdigital, PressReader, Rocket Languages, Chilton's Library, Lynda.com/LinkedInLearning) and more.  
 
Special Collections: 
Pictou Library also includes the Bud White Collection. A collection of various materials relating to the history of Pictou County and Nova Scotia in general. This material is for reference use only and must be used in the Library.  
 
Services: 
Programming, Reader's advisory, reference, inter-library loan, Internet access, public computer workstations, a laptop, scanner, photocopier, printer, GPS, family play packs, and Nordic walking poles. Instructional tours available upon request.  
 
 A 24-hour book-drop is available near the rear entrance of the Library. 
 
Library Programs: :  
All library programs are offered free of charge, although space is limited – so please call the Library for more information, and to register (902-485-5021). These regular library programs are offered through the fall until the spring (from September – June) while over the summer months, special programming (such as the Summer Reading Clubs for children) is offer. Throughout the year, special programs are also offered such as workshops, and presentations on a variety of topics. For more information, please visit our webpage, www.parl.ns.ca .

Meeting & Community Room 
The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library Board will provide non-profit groups with meeting space free of charge in the Program Room, when not in use for library activities. These meetings are to be of a non-fund raising, non-revenue generating nature. The Board reserves the right to accept or reject requests for the use of meeting space. Please call ahead for availability.

Accessibility Partially Wheelchair Accessible ; A ramp is located at the back of the building that enters directly onto the 2nd floor of the building (to the library entrance), from the rear parking lot. The book return drop is also located along side this ramp. 
A secondary entrance is through the building, and using the building elevator (located on the other end of the Town Hall building). The elevator will bring you to the second floor hallway, and the library is at the far end of the hallway. Please note, this secondary entrance door is not equipped with a PowerAssist door opener.  
 
The library also provides supported access to the CELA & NNELS audiobook collections for the Visually Impaired & Print Disabled, and has a long-term equipment loan program for DaisyReaders, for library clients. For more information, please contact your local library branch. 
 
The Library also carries Sensory Play (Neurodiversity Tool Kits) developed by AutismNS with sensory, visual and fidget tool bags available for families to borrow.
