Description & Services
Information | The Queens Community Health Board (QCHB) is the eyes, ears, and voice for Queens County residents regarding the factors that influence health. The Queens Community Health Board (QCHB) is one of 37 Community Health Boards across Nova Scotia. We are volunteers who are passionate about improving the health and wellness of the people in Queens County. As a Board we are the eyes, ears and voice for the community's health. The Board attempts to reflect the demographic diversity of the community (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity and geography) and encourages those who are interested to contact us. A Community Health Board: -works with the community to identify and promote community health promotion initiatives for inclusion in the community health plan; -participates in health promotion initiatives identified in the community health plan that have been approved in the NSHA’s health services business plan; -provides guidance to the NSHA on strategies to further engage the community on issues regarding health services; -provides such other advice and assistance as the NSHA may request; -as directed by the NSHA’s public engagement plan, consults with the residents of the communities they serve with respect to: o the social determinants of health – issues relating to health, including income and social status, social support networks, education, employment, physical environments, inherited factors in determining health outcomes, personal health practices and coping skills, child development, and health services in the community; o health needs and priorities; o access to health services; and o the promotion of health. provides advice, information, and feedback to the NSHA from public engagement plan consultations; and participates with the NSHA in the selection of Wellness Fund grant recipients to advance health promotion initiatives in the community. |
