Description & Services

Information Did you know that 4-H has been around for 100 years? That’s right! 100 years. 2013 marks 100 years of 4-H in Canada.

There are close to 2,400 members, 900 leaders and 100 clubs in Nova Scotia. More than 80 countries worldwide have 4-H clubs. 4-H is an organization dedicated to young people.

The purpose of the 4-H program is to prepare girls and boys for their future as adult citizens.

4-H stands for head, heart, hands and health.

The 4-H pledge describes the significance of the four H’s:
I pledge:
My HEAD to clearer thinking,
My HEART to greater loyalty,
My HANDS to larger service,
My HEALTH to better living,
For my Club, my Community and My Country.

The philosophy of the 4-H program is explained by the 4-H motto: Learn to do by Doing.

As a Nova Scotia 4-H’er, you can have the feeling of accomplishment that comes from trying and succeeding at something new – whether it’s fixing a small engine, knitting a sweater, training an animal or presenting a speech or demonstration to an audience.
