Description & Services
Information | Celebrate our nation's 150th anniversary with two spectacular concerts! At 2 p.m., LAMP will host a free concert featuring a brilliant new string quartet, the Iris Ensemble, at visual artist Kirk Mechar's studio in the former St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church hall, 116 Fox St. This very special program will include works by the godfather of Canadian music, Sir Ernest MacMillian (the actual piece, Three Fugues, was written while MacMillan was a prison of war in Germany in 1917 and has never been performed!); famed French Canadian composer Jean Papineau-Couture's String Quartet #3, written for Canada's Centennial in 1967; and the world premiere of a new work by emerging Nova Scotia composer Gavin Fraser. Then at 7 p.m. at the Academy, join LAMP for a Canada Day concert featuring world-renowned flutist and composer (and Nova Scotia native)Robert Aitken, beloved Acadian soprano Suzie LeBlanc, LAMP's master pianist Walter Delahunt and the CAG-winning Verona Quartet. This program will include the world premiere of a new work by Aitken, one of Canada's most significant composers, specially commissioned by LAMP for Canada 150, as well as a string quartet written by Halifax's Dinuk Wijeratne, and Dvorak's Piano Quintet, No. 2. Tickets $40 per person; $12 for university or NSCC students; up to 10 free tickets for children and youth available by calling LAMP at 902-634-8667. |
